In the years 1747-49 Giandomenico produced his cycle of paintings for the Oratory of the Crucifixion in the Venetian church of San Polo. Re-structured at the behest of the parish priest, this space was now adorned with 24 canvasses that developed upon the theme of the Stations of the Cross. Giandomenico would then return to these images in a series of prints which were intended to publicize this cycle – his first independent achievement as a painter. Later etchings by the artist would feature the five paintings of saints he produced for the San Polo Oratory: St. Vincent Ferrer Preaching to the Crowd; The Martyrdom of St. John Nepomuk; The Miracle of the True Cross; St. Margaret of Cortona and St. Vincent de Paul (in the Catalogo […] identified as a painting of St. Joseph Calasanz). Four of the original plates for these are in the Correr collection.
