The committee “Trieste Contemporanea. Dialogues with the art of central-eastern Europe” was set up June 1995 as a permanent observatory on the cultural currents that run across Europe to promote exchanges between western Europe and the Eastern and Mediterranean countries. From its inception, the project was granted recognition and support by international, organisations and by local and national cultural institutions. This has led to the Committee co-producing a wide range of initiatives dedicated to visual arts, music, cinema, literature, multimedia, theatre, architecture and design in Italy and abroad.
Venice plays host to a number of the Committee’s initiatives, amongst which the “C.E.I. Venice Forum” on the promotion of art in central-eastern Europe that takes place every two years to coincide with opening days of the Visual Arts Biennale.
